To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Karol Józef Wojty?a, the birth name of Pope John Paul II, numerous tributes are planned. The Vatican has decided to dedicate its first commemorative 2 euro coin of the 2020 vintage to this centenary. 

The coin is expected to sell 101,000 copies.  It's worth noting that the papal city has chosen to increase the mintage compared with previous vintages. The design shows Pope John Paul II in the house where he was born and the basilica near his home in Wadowice, Poland. At top left is the semi-circular inscription "PAPA GIOVANNI PAOLO II". On the right appear the years "1920 2020" and the mint mark "R", and at the bottom, in a semicircle, the name of the issuing country "CITTA' DEL VATICANO". Below the image of the basilica are the artist's name "G. TITOTTO" and the engraver's initials "M.A.C. INC" (Maria Angela Cassol Gravure). 

Edge: striated and inscribed with a 2 followed by two stars, all repeated six times, alternating right and wrong sides.
