In recent years, the Royal Mint has undergone a transformation in order to position itself more dynamically in the bullion coin market. This led to the launch of the Queen's Beasts collection, available in gold and silver in two- and ten-ounce sizes. Inspired by ten statues illustrating the arms of the families making up the Windsor genealogy, the British institute developed this theme. To renew its offer, the Royal Mint is once again taking its inspiration from the history of the United Kingdom, summoning Robin Hood to open up the theme of tales and legends of the British Isles.
Robin Hood first appeared in British folklore around the middle of the Middle Ages. His story evolved enormously until the 16th century, when several authors structured the tale more closely to the one we know today. An outstanding archer, he stole from the rich to give to the poor. Although this story is legendary, its aim of caring for the weakest members of society still has many resonances today. As part of this collection, the next characters to grace future bullions are Marianne and Petit Jean. Robin Hood is shown with his bow drawn and hidden in the branches of a tree. The design was created by Jody Clark, who also created the fifth and current portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
