Rama VIII, also known as King Ananda Mahidol, was the eighth monarch of the Chakri dynasty in Thailand and the country's first constitutional king. He was born on September 20, 1925, and ascended to the throne of Thailand at the age of nine in 1935, succeeding his uncle Rama VII. However, due to his young age, a regency council was established to govern on his behalf until he came of age.
His reign was marked by significant political events and changes in the country. In 1939, he received an education in Switzerland and spent much of his reign outside of Thailand. In 1946, at the age of 21, King Ananda Mahidol was found dead in his bedroom at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, killed by a gunshot wound. The exact circumstances of his death remained shrouded in mystery and have been a subject of speculation and controversy.
Following the death of King Ananda Mahidol, his younger brother, Bhumibol Adulyadej, succeeded him to the throne and became Rama IX, the most revered and longest-reigning monarch in the history of Thailand.
