The first edition of the San Marino Formula 1 Grand Prix, considered one of the most spectacular races on the F1 World Championship calendar, took place in 1981, on the circuit that would later bear the name of Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola (Bologna), and saw the victory of Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet. Thirty-five years after this event, San Marino Numismatics commemorated the anniversary with a beautiful silver ten-euro coin, designed by Matt Bonaccorsi, depicting a driver at the wheel of an F1 car. The race was born of the desire of Enzo Ferrari and the San Marino Automobile Federation and was last held in 2006. The evocative power of the Autodromo di Imola is now linked to a history of unforgettable sporting events which, in the collective imagination, make it a paradigm of the automotive world.
