5 Euros BE NETHERLANDS 2022. Theme: 150th anniversary of Piet Mondrian. Quality: BE (fine proof). Edition: 4,000 copies in proof Silver 925 ? - 15 5 g - Ø 33 mm. Delivered in official blister Anyone who thinks of Piet Mondrian immediately imagines the characteristic play of lines and primary colors that made the artist famous and ultimately immortalized him. In 2022 it will be 150 years since Piet Mondrian was born. This is why the Royal Dutch Mint strikes a commemorative coin in honor of this revolutionary artist. Born March 7, 1872 in Amersfoort Piet Mondrian grew up in a strict Calvinist family. His father is a professor and does not want to see Piet Mondrian become an artist. Mondrian trained as a drawing teacher but never gave up on his dream. At the age of 18 he organized an exhibition of his own works. At the start of his career Mondrian mainly painted portraits and landscapes. Around the age of 30 he became interested in theosophy: it is a discipline which seeks common ground between science, philosophy and religion. Mondrian thus developed an interest in geometric shapes. He considers them the basis of everything despite the fact that these forms do not exist as such in nature. Mondrian's art gradually evolves towards abstraction. The search for harmony and "absolute" beauty through primary color compositions of horizontal and vertical lines marks Piet Mondrian's breakthrough and makes him the pioneer of abstract art. The piece was designed by Marjolein Rothman. The designer sought the elementary translation of Mondrian's vision. Horizontal and vertical lines are the basic principles of his work and were used as a starting point for the design of the piece. The obverse features the portrait of King Willem-Alexander. On the left side from top to bottom is the text "King of the Netherlands". On the underside from left to right is the text "Willem-Alexander". The two texts intersect creating the same play of lines that we know from Mondrian. The reverse also contains horizontal and vertical movement. The two lines on the background intersect at the bottom of the image. The text follows these lines. In one direction of the line is 1872 the year Mondrian was born. In the other direction there is 2022 the year of Piet Mondrian's 150th birthday. The horizontal line is wider to give more weight to the composition and Piet Mondrian's name above it.
