Wakeno Kiyomaro, also known as Ki no Kiyomaro, was a prominent historical figure in 8th-century Japan. He was a nobleman and renowned poet during the Heian period. Born in 718, Kiyomaro belonged to the noble Ki family and showed a talent for poetry from an early age. He is recognized as one of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets of the Heian period. Kiyomaro actively participated in the literary circle of the imperial court, engaging in poetry contests and impressing others with his elegant and sensitive verses. He was not only admired for his poetic abilities but also known for his imposing physical appearance, with his tall stature and rare red hair.
