This silver tetradrachm was struck in Pergamon during the reign of Eumenes I, between 263 and 241 BC. The coin is issued in the name of Philetaerus, founder of the Attalid dynasty.
The coin is made of silver. It weighs 17.05 grams and measures 28 millimeters in diameter.
The iconography of this coin is as follows: the obverse depicts the portrait of Philetaerus, with a headband. The style of the portrait is realistic, with particular attention paid to the details of the face. The reverse of the coin depicts Athena seated, holding a shield. A Greek legend accompanies the figure, identifying Philetaerus. The style is typical of the Hellenistic period, with particular attention paid to the musculature and drapery of the figure.
