In 2021, the Monnaie de Paris struck a new €1 quarter banknote in current metal featuring a childlike animal.
In Chinese culture, this mythical animal symbolises power, nobility and success. Those born under the sign of the Dragon are naturally charismatic people who are often blessed with good fortune.

Surrounded by plum blossom, a symbol much used in Chinese history and art, and lanterns, the dragon is depicted in a childlike manner. The inscription 'Year of the Dragon' followed by the year 2024 appear in the centre of the coin. The dragon ideogram appears below.

On the reverse, all the animals of the Chinese zodiac are drawn in a childlike way around the Ying and Yang symbol. From 2018 to 2029 there is a complete cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Each of these twelve years features an animal from this calendar. The face value is visible in the centre of the denomination and the wording "RF".
