Series: Europ Star (2019 The Renaissance Era)
Theme : Leonardo da Vinci

Edition : 250 ex.
The journey back in time through the ages of Europe continues to arrive at the time of the Renaissance. Always wanting to enhance the ages of Europe through several angles, the Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to this era with three elements: Leonardo da Vinci, Francis I and the Castle of Ambrose.
Described as the archetype and symbol of the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci was a universal genius who was a painter, inventor, scientist, philosopher, writer, poet, musician as well as an architect and artist.
François I, who reigned for 32 years, is considered the emblematic king of the French Renaissance. He allowed a significant development of arts and letters in France. He was a great admirer of Leonardo da Vinci, to whom he entrusted various tasks such as the organisation of court festivities in Ambroise. It is therefore not surprising that these two emblematic men appear on this coin side by side.
Finally, the Château d'Amboise is a landmark for both men and also one of the symbols of the French Renaissance.
The structure of the face, common to all the countries in the Europa Star programme, features a star, taken from the logo. The theme of the year and the name of the issuing country are inscribed in an arc. At the heart of the face is the national element, the goddess Europa, which is clothed in flags. The year of issue is located at the bottom left of the coin.
The reverse side highlights the Renaissance period with the three major emblems: Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci, accompanied by the Vitruvian man and the flying machine, and the Château d'Amboise where the latter is buried.
