Abbé Pierre was a very popular figure in France and one of the most important men of the 20th century. His actions in the resistance during the Second World War earned him the Croix de Guerre with palm at the Liberation. He then began a career as a member of parliament until 1951. Then, returning to his first vocation as a priest and chaplain, he invested himself until his death in 2007 in charitable activities by creating and developing the movement to combat exclusion: Emmaus. This organisation is now present in 36 countries.
On the front is a portrait of Abbé Pierre with his famous beret surmounted by the words "Centenary of Abbé Pierre's birth". His most beautiful quotations are marked in micro text in the same mention. The reverse side is identical to that of the current €2 coin, which is common to all the countries in the euro zone: the face value "2 euro" appears in front of the geographical map of Europe.
