Tutankhamun (born around 1345 BC, died around 1327 BC) was the eleventh pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (New Kingdom) of ancient Egypt. According to the latest genetic studies, he was the son of Akhenaten and the latter's own sister, whose identity is unknown, but who is referred to as Younger Ladyn.
The reason why he did not succeed his father directly is unknown. Perhaps it was because he was too young, aged around nine (or even five or six). He reigned at a time of turmoil, religious questioning, upheaval of traditional values and the risk of war with the Hittites. He lived to the age of eighteen or nineteen. His reign took place between 1336/1335 and 1327 BC.
