Mao Zedong, often referred to simply as "Mao," was a Chinese politician and revolutionary leader. Born on December 26, 1893, and passing away on September 9, 1976, Mao is famous for being the founder and leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and for establishing the People's Republic of China in 1949.
He became the de facto leader of China following the Communist victory in the Chinese Civil War, establishing a communist regime and assuming roles as the Chairman of the People's Republic of China and the Chairman of the Communist Party of China.
During Mao's reign, China underwent extensive political, economic, and social reforms, including the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. However, these initiatives were also accompanied by significant upheavals, political repression, and tragic famines, resulting in the deaths of millions of people.
Despite these controversies, Mao Zedong is still regarded as an iconic figure in modern Chinese history. His influence on 20th-century China, his adaptation of Marxism-Leninism to Chinese realities, and his vision of communism have left a profound impact on the country and the global political landscape.
