Manchukuo was a puppet state established by the Empire of Japan in the Manchuria region (now known as Manchuria), China, between 1932 and 1945. It was an attempt to create an entity under Japanese control in this resource-rich region.
Manchukuo was proclaimed in 1932 following the Japanese army's invasion of Manchuria in 1931, an event known as the Mukden Incident. The last Chinese emperor, Puyi, was installed as the head of state of Manchukuo under the title "Kangde" or "Kangte."
However, Manchukuo was never widely recognized by the international community and was largely regarded as a puppet state controlled by Imperial Japan. After the end of World War II in 1945, with Japan's defeat, Manchukuo ceased to exist, and the region reverted to being a part of China.
